Best Longboard Bearings FAQs

You've just bought a new longboard and you're looking for the best bearings to go with it, but you don't know where to start.

There are so many different types of bearings on the market, all with different specs and prices, that it can be hard to know which one is right for you.

We've put together this guide to help make your decision easier. In it, we'll explain the difference between ABEC ratings, ceramic bearings, and shielded versus unsealed bearings.

We'll also recommend our top three picks for the best longboard bearings on the market.

Do Longboard Bearings Make A Difference?

It depends on what you're looking for in a bearing. If you want something that will make your longboard faster, then bearings with more ABEC ratings will make a difference.

However, if you're just looking for a bearing that will last longer and not cause too much friction, then any basic bearing will do the trick.

Bearings are an important part of any longboard because they help to reduce friction between the wheels and the deck. This is why it's important to always keep your bearings well-lubricated with a quality lubricant; otherwise, they can start to wear down and cause your longboard to slow down or even stop altogether.

So if you're looking for a way to make your longboard go faster, or if you just want to extend the life of your longboard, then investing in a good set of bearings is a must.

Are All Longboard Bearings The Same Size?

No, all longboard bearings are not the same size. Some are smaller than others. But, does it matter? They all do the same job, and that's what counts!

The size of longboard bearings is measured by two things: the width and the inner diameter (or axle).

Most longboard bearings have a standard width of seven millimeters (0.28 inches) and an inner diameter of eight millimeters (0.31 inches).

However, some are as small as five millimeters (0.20 inches) in width and as large as nine millimeters (0.35 inches) in inner diameter. The size of your longboard's bearings will ultimately be determined by the size of your longboard's wheels.

How Long Do Longboard Bearings Last?

This is a great question! I'm glad you asked. The lifespan of a longboard bearing depends on a few factors, such as the quality of the bearing and how often it's used. A high-quality bearing can last anywhere from 2-5 years, while a lower-quality bearing may only last 1-2 years.

Another factor to consider is how often you ride your longboard. If you ride it daily, then your bearings will wear out faster than if you only ride it once in a while.

So, how do you know when your bearings need to be replaced? Look for telltale signs, such as difficulty rolling or strange noises coming from the wheels.

If your bearings are starting to show signs of wear, then it's time to replace them.

How Do You Break In Longboard Bearings?

You need a set of Allen keys and a hammer. First, you want to remove the shield from the bearing using the Allen keys.

Next, you take the hammer and hit the axle of the bearing till it falls out. Finally, you put the new bearings in (shield side up this time) and screw on the tightness ring.

The Conicals are slightly harder to break in but follow instructions 1-3. Then find a large rock or brick wall to ride against for about 15 feet (4.6m).

Once your bearings are broken in swap out your old wheels for some fresh ones!

Do Longboard Bearings Matter?

Yes, longboard bearings matter! They help determine how fast and smooth your longboard rides. ABEC ratings (the standard measure of a bearing's quality) range from 1-9, with 9 being the best.

So it's important to get high-quality bearings for the best possible performance.
